Profile
of Nate Monteith
Nate began his nine year racing career in 1993. Nate first
sat in a go-kart when he was five years old, racing around the pine trees
at his grandparent's house. Thus, the #44 car and Nate’s career was
born. Don Monteith, Nate’s father, was born in 1944, raced a number
44 car at LPIR Nate’s birth was at 10:44 p.m. It seemed that 44 was
a family number, so Nate has used it for over 7 years. Nate ran his Karts
at local tracks from 1993-1994. In 1995 he ran World Karting Association
Tennessee State point series and finished second overall in points. From
1996-1997, Nate ran in the WKA National point series and finished 6th overall
points in 1997.
With over 20 wins and several top 5 finishes, Nate started racing Nascar
Winston Cup in 1998 at the Kingsport Speedway. Driving in the Limited Sportsman
division, Nate finished the season with an impressive record of one win,
three 2nd's, two 3rd's, two 4th's. Nate also finished second in points for
the season, and earned the "Rookie of the Year" award. This was
done with a race car that was eleven years old - We named it "Noah",
and retired it to a show car.
In 1999, Nate debuted in a Late Model Stock car in the Winston Racing Series,
at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia. When the season ended Nate
had nineteen starts, six poles, three wins, twelve top 5's, and fourteen
top 10's. He finished 3rd place in points, missing second by only two points.
He earned the "Rookie of the Year” award for his first Late Model
year. Nate ran his first ARCA race at Salem, Indiana in September of 1999.
The leased car had mechanical problems and he failed to finish the race.
At one point Nate was in 6th place, running door handle to door handle with
Kenny Schrader. After that, Nate went to Martinsville Speedway to qualify
for the “Daytona of Late Models”, and finished 7th in his heat
race. Nate also raced in Nashville. Here, he raced a competitive race with
Casey Atwood and Joe Buford. Nate raced these Late Model races in 1999 with
the same car.
In 2000, Nate had seven poles, six wins, and five top 5's. He competed in
the ARA sanction at Coeburn, Virginia. Next, he raced at Greenville Pickens
Speedway in Greenville, South Carolina with a best finish of 4th against
six past track champions like Gene Morgan, Pete Silva, Marty Ward, Randy
Porter, Toby Porter, and Donnie Bishop. Nate raced at New River Valley and
(finished a 2nd and a 3rd.???), his first ever on the track. Nate loves
the Nashville track, and he's looking forward to racing on the new track
in Lebanon, Tennessee. Nate finished the season with two awards: The first
for the most poles, and the second for the most wins.
In 2001, Nate ran an ARCA race at the new Nashville Super Speedway. He also
ran late model and ARA Series at Lonesome Pine Raceway with one win from
the pole. To date, Nate has three wins, three poles, and three top 5's.
Nate’s debut in the Nascar Busch series was at Nazareth Speedway on
May 20, 2001. Since then, Nate has purchased two Busch cars to be run out
of his own facility. Nate raced at IRP on August 4th with a 32nd qualifying
position. During the race, Nate was hit in the right quarter panel and sent
for a spin. Two other cars hit him, and Nate finished 34th. His next Busch
race was at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee on August 24th.
Due to motor problems he qualified 44, and failed to make the race due to
no provisional points. At Talladega happy hour, he was sixth fastest. He
raced in ARCA at Talladega Superspeedway with an impressive 11th place qualify
and 11th place finish.
In 2002, Nate raced in the ARCA race at Daytona, with a 13th place qualifying
position out of 42 cars. He was racing as far up as 5th place when a red
flag rain delay was issued. After the rain delay the leaders and Nate made
